After a standout 2025 that saw Miss Kaninna take home three AIR Awards, receive three ARIA nominations for her debut EP KANINNA, and join Kneecap on their sold-out 18-date UK and European tour, she returned in 2026 with BLACKPRINT — an incendiary, genre-bending declaration of Black power, sovereignty, and radical joy. The mixtape picked up five further ARIA nominations, with her current national BLACKPRINT headline tour now sold out. She now returns with a powerful remix EP, reimagining key tracks from her award-winning debut EP, KANINNA.

A First Nations artist from Bruny Island, Tasmania — of Yorta Yorta, Dja Dja Wurrung, Kalkadoon, and Yirendali heritage — Miss Kaninna has established herself as one of the most compelling figures in so-called Australian music today. She made history in 2024 with her debut single, Blak Britney, becoming the first independent Aboriginal woman nominated for an ARIA for a debut single. The track reached #1 on triple j, featured in Netflix's Heartbreak High, and was named by Rolling Stone as one of the Best Australian & NZ Songs of the 21st Century.

Floating effortlessly between Hip-Hop, R&B, rock, punk and pop, Miss Kaninna continues to expand her sonic universe — this time, through the lens of some of the most exciting producers across so-called Australia, Aotearoa and the U.S..  East Bay music and movement artist Coflo (Yoruba, Freerange, Local Talk) delivers three remixes for ‘Dawg In Me’ and ‘Black Britney’ moving from raw, syncopated club energy, to dub-inspired deep house and dark four-to-the-floor grooves. Alexander Flood (Atjazz, Jakarta, Ropeadope) flips ‘Black Britney’ into a swinging disco house burner, laced with 2000s electronica and a hint of Brazil. Naarm-based producer/drummer Kawel Che (Maru Elias) goes downtempo with a amapiano-inspired version of ‘Push Up’, featuring Waanyi/Gangaliida rapper Jamahl Yami. Close Counters’ (Nervous, Glitterbox) Allan McConnell steps out as TURBO CHOOK taking ‘Pinnacle Bitch’ into high-tempo club territory — blending Jersey Club, broken beat and jungle with the energy of the queer club scene. And Aotearoa’s Bharu — recognised by Timbaland — brings his signature multi-layered groove to ‘Pinnacle Bitch’ making its streaming debut after first appearing as a vinyl exclusive. Each producer adds a distinct voice to the dialogue between rhythm, resistance, and identity — the result a body of work that honours Miss Kaninna’s community roots while pushing toward a global sound.

TRACK NOTES

01.  Dawg In Me (Coflo Rework)

East Bay-born music and movement artist Coflo (Yoruba, Freerange, Local Talk, Offering, G.A.M.M.,) says “She’s a strong performer with a powerful message, and that energy pushed my remix approach to be more direct and aggressive. “Dawg In Me” already had that raw bite in the vibe. I matched that intensity with a three-step syncopated pattern—leaving just enough space for the rhythm to snap back at you right when you think you can catch a breath.”

02.  Black Britney (Coflo Dance Floor Dub)

““Black Britney” is already a hell of a tune, packed with vocal gems I couldn’t resist flipping. I took it in two different directions for this release. For the first version, I pushed the tempo up to a lyrical breakpoint and brought in a more dub-inspired approach with a straight dancefloor mindset. I’ve also been looking for a reason to bring some overdriven blues guitar energy into some projects and this record was the perfect landscape for it,” says Coflo.

03.  Black Britney (Coflo Rework)

“The second remix leans into a darker tone to match the weight of the lyrics—pulling from my familiar four-to-the-floor, syncopated pocket to twist the energy into something fresh. At the end of the day, I wanted to give both mixes a different perspective—while highlighting just how versatile Miss Kaninna’s wordplay truly is,” says Coflo.

04.  Black Britney (Alexander Flood Remix)

Fresh off ARTIFACTUAL RHYTHM (Atjazz Record Company), Alexander Flood lifts the tempo with a swinging 4-to-the-floor cut laced with 2000s electronica, disco house, and a hint of Brazil.

05.  Push Up (Kawel Che Remix feat. Jamahl Yami)

A downtempo, amapiano-inspired rework by Naarm-based producer/drummer Kawel Che (Maru Elias) featuring Waanyi/Gangaliida artist Jamahl Yami, this version of Push Up bridges continents through sound and kinship.

06.  Pinnacle Bitch (Turbo Chook Remix)

Allan McConnell from production duo Close Counters steps out under his solo moniker TURBO CHOOK for a high-tempo club refix. Inspired by hip-hop and the queer club scene, Turbo Chook blends Jersey Club, broken beat, and jungle to deliver a dark, magnetic transformation built for the dance floor.

07.  Pinnacle Bitch (Bharu Remix)

Aotearoa’s Bharu. First appearing as a bonus track on the KANINNA 12” vinyl, this remix now gets its wider debut on streaming platforms. “The first thing that caught my attention from the original version of "Pinnacle Bitch" was Miss Kaninna's attitude in her vocals. There was so much grit in her delivery that it pushed me toward a street sound I'd become familiar with on a recent trip to Miami. I produced this remix off the back of a music writing camp put together by Timbaland between BeatClub and ASCAP. Over four days various singers and rappers came in and out of the doors of Rebel Eleven Studios, and the music filling those rooms and hallways carried some of the heaviest, most intense 808s I'd ever heard in my life. Little did I know that experience would become the inspiration and foundation for my remix”, says Bharu.
