Ahead of her expanded headline tour with multiple sold-out dates presented by triple j, I OH YOU & MG Live kicking off in Boorloo/Perth tonight with incoming festival appearances at Spilt Milk, Dingo Festival and Strawberry Fields, proud Yorta Yorta, Dja Dja Wurrung, Kalkadoon and Yirendali sovereign woman & Naarm/Melbourne-via-lutruwita/Tasmania artist MISS KANINNA (she/her - pronunciation guide here), a history-making 6-time ARIA Award nominee, multi-award-winner, and leader whose cultural influence extends far beyond the stage shares her long-awaited debut mixtape BLACKPRINT: 6 tracks that began life as freestyles, evolving into songs in front of stadium crowds - a vehicle for rage and joy rooted in hip-hop, moving between funk/soul/R&B, rock, punk, garage, club and beyond. "We know we’re the key to start of civilisation, we're literally the blueprint and we don't care if white people agree or not, we aren't gonna wait for you" says Miss Kaninna of the mixtape's concept and title, which includes features from Kobie Dee and Jamahl Yami, including booming punk-influenced focus track 'STOLEN WAGES' as well as singles 'MOB TIES' & 'HANDOUT'. Also available on limited yellow vinyl and launching at a special performance & signing at Soundmerch next week, BLACKPRINT is out now via Soul Has No Tempo / AWAL Recordings - stream/purchase HERE - all live dates below, with supports MALI JO$E, TAIJA, WAARI and LAYESH now announced.
The BLACKPRINT mixtape release - already attracting support via triple j, The Music and The Note Magazine (both featuring Miss Kaninna on the cover), This Song Is Yours, Bricks Magazine UK, TakeFlight, seeing Miss Kaninna guest host ABC's rage and perform on Spicks And Specks - follows a nomination for Artist of the Year at the National Indigenous Music Awards and a red-hot headline tour in EU/UK, a return to the places that gave her some of her most memorable moments of her young, whirlwind career - this time, leading a massive sold-out Féile an Phobail festival crowd in Belfast in chanting "Always Was, Always Will Be, Aboriginal Land" - like she did an audience of 80K+ at Scotland's OVO Hydro last year - just one highlight of her appearance at the Féile an Phobail charity festival with Kneecap and Bob Vylan, where she met and spoke with Greta Thunberg after her set - who called it an "amazing show". "The first ever Aboriginal MC" to play Sziget Festival and highlit as a must-see act at Boomtown Festival UK, Miss Kaninna's recent lauded performances back home include King St Crawl, Dark Mofo and a sold-out headline show in Ngunnawal & Ngambri Country/Canberra. The BLACKPRINT tour starts nationally in Boorloo/Perth tonight, with venue upgrades and additional dates since the mixtape + tour's announcement saw shows selling out in less than 48hrs.
Booming focus track 'STOLEN WAGES' sees Miss Kaninna lean back into the rock/punk energy her art has always been rooted in, thematically acting as the "nucleus" of BLACKPRINT - "this song anchors the mixtape for me" , says Miss Kaninna, who worked on the track with producer Lucy Blomkamp (6lack, Mallrat, perfectworld) - also on guitar - created after their successful collaboration with standalone 2025 single 'BACKSTREETS', which placed #187 in triple j's Hottest 200 and was nominated for Best Video at this year's AIR Awards. Of the track, Miss Kaninna says: "Aboriginal people all over the country have had so many things stolen from us. A specific time recently my people and family had our wages stolen for fair work under the white Australian government and our families have never seen that money, nor will we ever. Another huge injustice that goes unspoken in this country and in schools, so you’re going to learn about it now."
BLACKPRINT is the long-awaited incoming mixtape - and honest insight into genuine feeling - from a singular artist, creative force, compelling performer and leader, as Miss Kaninna continues to make history and level up with every move. A title that's always appealed to Miss Kaninna for its implication: "we know we’re the key to start of civilisation, we're literally the blueprint and we don't care if white people agree or not, we aren't gonna wait for you" she says, the 6-track mixtape consists mainly of freestyles that gradually transformed into songs in front of heaving stadium crowds at home and internationally. A supercharged vehicle to express joy, anger, freedom and frustration, BLACKPRINT is rooted firmly in old school hip-hop ('MOB TIES', 'HANDOUT' ft. Jamahl Yami) with influences spanning the genre's eras, pulling from funk/soul/R&B and pop ('LOOK AT ME NOW' ft. Kobie Dee - including lyrics that will be familiar to fans of Miss Kaninna's highly-viewed/praised TakeFlight Sky Sessions freestyle - with over a million views), rock, punk, grunge, bass-driven club music ('STOLEN WAGES', 'BLACKPRINT'), beyond featuring guest appearances from Kobie Dee and Jamahl Yami, all delivered with Miss Kaninna's world-class panache and urgent resonance. Produced by Miss Kaninna with additional production via Lucy Blomkamp (6lack, Mallrat, perfectworld) and executively produced by Nikodimos (Hiatus Kaiyote, Genesis Owusu) at friendship studios on Wurundjeri Country, it follows globally acclaimed, ARIA-nominated award-winning 2024 EP KANINNA, with BLACKPRINT's commanding singles 'MOB TIES' and 'HANDOUT' receiving full adds to triple j, topping the AMRAP National, Metro and Hip-Hop Community Radio Charts, attracting strong local & international media attention including the likes of ETTE Media (where Miss Kaninna featured on a special bonus episode of We Used To Be Journos with Antoinette Lattouf), NME, SBS, ABC News, The Guardian, ARIA, RUSSH, Rolling Stone, National Indigenous Times, Cheek Media, 10 Magazine, The Music (who named 'MOB TIES' one of the heaviest local tracks of 2026), Music Feeds, Ones To Watch US, Teen Spirit Magazine and many more.
Miss Kaninna says of her debut mixtape: "BLACKPRINT has been on my mind for a long time; it feels like a blueprint for my life. I feel Aboriginal people are the blueprint and have been robbed of that, that is the reality of my existence. Over time BLACKPRINT became a vehicle to express anger and frustration. As that resolved, it’s landed in a place of uplift and an expression of existence. The mixtape can be abrasive and in your face but at the same time, quite groovy with rock and punk elements, rhythm and rap. Even though it’s only been 2 years since my debut EP, my whole life has changed since KANINNA - there’s been a lot of growth. New experiences travelling around the world as a new artist has given me the confidence to take risks and move away from more palatable music. I have firsthand experience of audiences outside of so-called Australia wanting to hear the truth. I crave working with new people always, but since working with (mixtape executive producer) Nikodimos I’ve really found a pocket of understanding and creation that I love and am very grateful for that. Personally, the travel and life experience has really given me the confidence to allow myself, and the songs, the time to breathe and be ready."
With a singular reputation for her ability to create space to rouse rage and joy in equal measure - boasting over 4M streams across her catalogue and live shows seeing her praised as "electrifying" (Rolling Stone), "steal[ing] the show" (Double J), "furious fun" (The Guardian) plus peers like Amyl & the Sniffers' Amy Taylor calling her "an inspiration", KNEECAP declaring her "the best support act we've ever had" and De La Soul calling her "the queen" as she supported them on their 2026 tour - 'HANDOUT', 'MOB TIES' and 'BACKSTREETS' follow a mammoth 2025 that saw Miss Kaninna named one of NME's Essential 100 Emerging Artists, nab her second J Award nomination (Live Act of the Year) and score 3x ARIA Award nominations for her sold-out Dawg In Me national tour and her critically acclaimed debut EP KANINNA (2024), also nominated for Best Hip-Hop/Rap Release, winning Best Independent Hip-Hop EP/Album and Breakthrough Independent Artist of the Year at the 2025 Australian Independent Music (AIR) Awards and scored a heart-warming shoutout in Ben Lee x Phantom Planet's 'Catch My Disease 2025' and international media acclaim - that continues to build - from the likes of VOGUE, NME, The Guardian, RUSSH, Cosmopolitan Magazine, SBS, Rolling Stone, KEXP, KCRW, a panel - and more recently, musical guest appearance on ABC's Spicks & Specks, full adds to triple j, CADA, iHeartAus and beyond, her debut KANINNA EP making a slew of end-of-year Best Of lists - its creator boasting key DSP playlist support and multiple covers across her career. In 2026, Amazon named her a Global Artist To Watch, appearing on their billboard in Times Square - with Spotify also showcasing her on their EQUAL billboard in Times Square the same week, the artist also receiving an AIR Award nomination for the music video of "vulnerable and tough" (Rolling Stone) standalone single 'BACKSTREETS' in late 2025 - which placed #187 in triple j's Hottest 200 - AND a nomination for Artist of the Year at this year's NIMAs. With activism a crucial thread in Miss Kaninna's lineage and her art, contributing her platform and support to marginalised communities form a vital part of her practise, she headed the creation of Sovereign Day Out - a festival to uplift First Nations people following a Neo-Nazi white supremacist attack on sacred land, also appearing on SBS NITV's The Point to discuss the rise of racism in so-called Australia.
Floating effortlessly between hip-hop, R&B, rock and pop (proving she also has the chops for country via her appearance on ABC's That Blackfella Show), Miss Kaninna's genre-defying approach provides a staunch foundation for a new artist with an urgency for change - performing in prestige venues like London's Camden Assembly and the Sydney Opera House plus festivals like St Jerome's Laneway Festival, The Great Escape UK, Bluesfest, supporting De La Soul and Amyl & the Sniffers nationally, KNEECAP nationally and across the EU/UK, Thelma Plum, Hiatus Kaiyote, ONEFOUR, M.I.A and more, with her breakout (and cultural breakthrough) debut single 'Blak Britney', nominated for 3 ARIA Awards including Best Independent Release making her the first independent Aboriginal woman ever to be nominated for a debut single (and 3 more nominations to follow for her EP KANINNA) - also named in Rolling Stone's Best 300 AUNZ Songs of the 21st Century So Far and included in Netflix's Heartbreak High as well as her followup 'Pinnacle Bitch'. The energy she brings to stages in 2026 has only been further fuelled by a jam-packed 2025/26 summer festival run including BTV, Wildlands and more, as well as her own headline home and UK tours, an 18-date KNEECAP support, live performances at A Gathering For Gaza, Party In The Paddock, PBS Drive Live, SPLORE Festival and Sonder Festival, and beyond. Miss Kaninna continues to share her ferocious charisma, rage, and resistance via a masterfully tight level of live performance - every set an uncompromising statement of identity and truth - plus ongoing work with initiatives supporting Indigenous, immigrant, LGBTQI+ and all women’s rights, with each milestone and movement solidifying her already-won place as a voice and presence who commands full respect and attention.
